Thank you for your support of the 2006 International Conference on Exotics.
Due to a number of factors, including the increased costs of production and the small exotic
animal resource pool from which we must all draw, we have elected not to develop another ICE conference. We want to express a heartfelt thank you to all members of the veterinary community
who have supported us over the past 8 years. We will keep you informed of any future plans.

Lichtenberger writes
2006 Exotic DVM
Paper(s) of the Year
Marla Lichtenberger, DVM, Dipl ACVECC, received the $1000 cash award for the Exotic DVM Paper of the Year at the recent International Conference on Exotics (ICE). The acknowledgment is presented annually by Exotic DVM Veterinary Magazine to the author of the paper selected by its readers as the one most clinically relevant and applicable to exotic pet practice. Two papers tied for the award this year and both were written by Dr. Lichtenberger: Fluid Resuscitation and Nutritional Support in Rabbits with Gastric Stasis or Gastro-intestinal Obstruction (Vol 7.2) and Shock, Fluid Therapy, Anesthesia and Analgesia in the Ferret (Vol 7.2). Dr. Lichtenberger is associated with the Animal Emergency Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Stephen Hernandez-Divers Named
2006 Exotic DVM of the Year
At the opening session of the 2006 International
Conference on Exotics, Stephen Hernandez-Divers,
Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Exotic
Animal, Wildlife and Zoological Medicine Service at the
College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Georgia, was awarded the Exotic DVM of the Year. The award is given
annually to a veterinarian who is extraordinarily competent
with all species of exotic pets and is an international
ambassador for the field.
Steve graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in
London and is a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons
Diplomate of Zoological Medicine (reptilian), a RCVS
recognized Specialist in Zoo & Wildlife Medicine, and a
Diplomate of the American College of Zoological Medicine.
He is a past-president of the Association of Reptilian and
Amphibian Veterinarians and Associate Editor for the
Journal of Herpetological Medicine & Surgery and the
Journal of Zoo & Wildlife Medicine. Known by his students
as Dr “HD,” he has lectured at over 30 national or
international conferences.
In addition to his clinical responsibilities, he is also Chief
of Staff for Medicine, representative on the hospital board
and co-director of the Endoscopy Training Center. His
zoological research interests include evaluation of avian/
reptile renal and hepatic function; reptile cardiovascular
function, blood gases, analgesia and anesthesia;
comparative clinical pathology; wildlife disease and
conservation; endoscopy and minimally-invasive
endosurgery. He has over $350,000 in research grants
and over 60 publications to his name.
